Adolescents, Adults Age Group:

I believe that healing begins when we feel understood, connected, and supported.

As a therapist with a Master of Social Work degree from Simmons University, I work with adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, substance use concerns, and relationship challenges. I strive to create a warm, supportive space where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to make lasting change.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I recognize that seeking support can feel vulnerable, and I value creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, authenticity, and mutual respect. Drawing from psychodynamic principles, I help clients explore how past experiences, relationships, and patterns may influence their current challenges while also identifying practical ways to move forward. I approach each client with curiosity and compassion, tailoring treatment to their unique experiences, goals, and strengths.

I am particularly passionate about working with individuals who are navigating difficult life transitions, relationship and friendship concerns, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, and challenges related to personal growth and well-being. As a therapist of color who practices cultural humility, I recognize the importance of understanding each client’s unique background, lived experiences, and values. I strive to create an inclusive environment where clients feel respected, supported, and comfortable bringing their authentic selves into the therapy process. I also speak and understand Spanish, which can be helpful for clients who are more comfortable incorporating aspects of both English and Spanish into conversation.

My clinical training includes coursework and specialized study in mindfulness, supporting clients through crisis and safety concerns, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and interpersonal neurobiology. Prior to joining Transitions, I worked as an In-Home Therapist supporting children, adolescents, and families, and gained experience providing outpatient psychotherapy within a private practice setting. These experiences have strengthened my ability to support clients facing a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges.

I offer both in-person sessions at our Norfolk office and telehealth appointments, with flexible scheduling options to help meet the needs of busy individuals, couples, and families.

Transitions is proud to have Associate Clinicians who are pursuing their licensure and working with a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) under close supervision while they are working towards their own independent licensure. Bermarie has a designated Clinical Supervisor, Heather Haupt LICSW, collaborating on your care.
